Good thick glass. You'll need to cut off the back piece of plastic if you need to run wires from a heater or filter, but diagonal wire cutters have worked great for me.

I was worried it would break but it was well packaged and in perfect condition. Will work great for keeping my cats away from my cichlids. Large for a 40 gallon grower.

I'll only give it a 4 because it's a little big because it doesn't quite fit the filter. I've even tried without the hard plastic attached to the glass. It still didn't fit perfectly. I have a 40 gallon filter and a 40 gallon aquarium. So if you buy it for a 40 tank breeder, it will be slightly larger by a few inches. I will still use it. In addition, it is a very good glass vessel for the aquarium.

PERFECT for my 40 gallon grower! It's a nice heavy glass with a strong 'plastic' bezel that slides over the back of the glass and you can cut out any areas you want for the filter, cables etc. The plastic is durable so ignore my bad cut. photographic skills. I love that I have a clear glass lid. Comes with a pen and glue so you can open and feed the critters! Easily removable for cleaning. Just sit in the aquarium! Arrived very well packaged

I purchased this cap for a 40 gallon Tetra tank but the inside length of this tank is slightly shorter so the cap is not flat rests. The exact dimensions of this top are 35"x16-3/4". My advice to potential buyers: carefully measure the inside of the aquarium before purchasing. Please note that this lid was made by a different company than my aquarium. Otherwise it is top quality. You may need to purchase a matching lid and aquarium from the same manufacturer.

When I first ordered this lid it was packaged very poorly (only the lid was stapled in the regular Aqueon cardboard sleeve you always see these lids in , in a long cardboard box 3 times larger, only with a strip of crumpled brown paper as "underlay") and lo and behold, it was completely broken.
