Review on Stansport 766 Saddle Bag by John Hashman

Not a bad saddlebag for the price but needs some modification

I bought this bag for a trip I took a few weeks ago. I've now driven 1300 km with it. So far it has been a good saddlebag. I used the included rope to tighten it so it wouldn't be as close to my exhaust pipe or strap. I also sewed a webbing with a latch on it and attached the other side of the webbing and the latch to the seat. Now I can strap it to my bike without worrying about it flying away (which happened the first night when I had it), but it's still easy to take off. I think it looks great and useful. I can't say I trust it to be waterproof, but I haven't tested it either. I would say I would have preferred plastic latches rather than D-rings to keep the flaps closed. . They were difficult to open and close, so most of the time I just caught things through the open sides. The eyelets and hinges on the bottom didn't look good either. They already looked rusty and in poor condition when I unpacked them. It doesn't give me much hope for longevity. Even when I put it on my back for the first time, it scratched my pain. And that's a big scratch. I wore a black t-shirt underneath. That helped prevent the worst.
