Lace doesn't fit small hands. I replaced ours with a wide flat tip. The spare was not tied on top, but that has nothing to do with tying the shoes. I saw in other reviews that they should have just used the shoes at home. I do not agree. My son only wears velcro until he can tie himself. I will not give him old adult shoes to play with. I also have a special needs child who will benefit in the future. With the new flat shoelaces, he managed the first step in a few minutes. He couldn't do anything with the original shoelace.
