Bungee laces

I love the shoes themselves but when my son put them on on his first day there was too much bungee cord and he couldn't keep his feet in the shoes (I ordered half size so it can grow). I was trying to find a solution to my bungee problem but my bungee cord broke and I had to tie his boots the normal way. I didn't expect them to shrink so quickly, it's only the morning of his first day of school.
