I bought a canvas backpack for toddlers A backpack with harness for my 3.5 year old son. I let him choose between the suggested designs and he settled on the owl backpack. He is just as adorable in real life as in the photo. The backpack is small, definitely good for home and kindergarten, but not big enough to carry things to kindergarten (binders, lunch, etc.). It is very durable and can withstand the baby's manipulation. He currently uses it to either store his monster trucks or play at school. The hand straps are great. Each strap is padded for comfort. The elastic cord between the straps allows the child to feel independent. I didn't use the strap attached to the backpack, but I did use it wrist-to-wrist (my wrist and his wrist). Of course I'm still cautious in public, but being in crowded public places like the zoo gives me a greater sense of security. pleases.
