This product is designed to detect hot wires in high voltage AC circuits such as household wiring. He does it. I give it three stars because you have to adjust the sensitivity to be sure. I'll still be careful, even though this product says the chain isn't hot. There are videos on YouTube of people using such products to fix problems in AC Christmas light bulbs. Videos make it look easy. I tried this product with two strands. It doesn't help at all. High sensitivity gives false positive results and low sensitivity gives false negative results. I don't know if any detector really works as well as YouTube videos showing Christmas lights, but definitely not this one.
