I bought this camera because I needed a camera in my shirt pocket for those times when other cameras aren't practical. I looked at several other brands before purchasing the FH20 based on user reviews. In general I am quite satisfied. I didn't give 5 stars because nothing is perfect. The camera is solidly built and therefore heavier than most of its competitors. However, there is a reassurance that the camera isn't as fragile as most of its competitors. The photos that come out are of high quality, much better than what I've seen from some other manufacturers' cameras. In part, this comparison applies not only to compact cameras, but also to larger, more expensive point-and-shoot digital cameras. An exception to good quality is when using the digital zoom feature. The FH20's 8x optical zoom is 2x better than other manufacturers I've looked at. Photos taken with this feature are of very good quality and compare well to those taken with many larger, more expensive point and shoot cameras. The main disadvantage of the FH20 is common to all cameras of this type; LCD viewfinder. Using this type of viewfinder is inconvenient because the camera has to be held away from the eye, sometimes making it difficult to determine the point of focus. Also, the image is difficult to see in bright sunlight or in places with strong lighting. By default, the digital zoom function is disabled. This is good because I found it didn't produce any usable photos. This is a very good compact camera that I would recommend to others in the market for this type of camera. Actually I told my wife that we need to buy one for her. However, I would only recommend it as a secondary camera, mainly due to the use of the LCD screen as a viewfinder. However, this is common to all compact cameras and should not be seen as a disadvantage when considering this camera for purchase.
