Whilst the slatted surfaces are second to none the plastic frame is terrible. The detachable side didn't hold up and kept slipping out, then the frame broke and didn't hold the large grille in place. I can't believe how long we put up with this - we must have regretted spending so much money on this item. Was it that much better than a $3 grater from the grocery store? Not really. I wouldn't buy it again although I would buy other Microplane products. I saw the bad reviews and thought "oh they just don't use/maintain it properly". It's not like this. This is bad design.
