Cutouts do not work best with Die-Cuts

I bought these dies to cut small strips of cardboard. You cut the cardboard but leave strips of paper on the sides. I tried several times with different card weights and additional spacers in my machine but the cuts were still not clean. I was really hoping they would work well.
