Review on πŸ”³ Thick Acrylic Plexiglass Sheets - Highest-Quality Source for Inches Thickness by Kory Shelton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

More like 300 x 300 mm than 12 " x 12 " and slightly crooked, otherwise excellent

I purchased a piece of 12" x 12" 3/8" thick Plexiglas to build a shelf. The piece I received was slightly smaller than advertised, although not as small As other reviewers reported. If the description says the size is 300mm x 300mm that would be more accurate. So on average it was about 4mm smaller. It wasn't perfectly square either, with one side probably off by a degree (according to the accuracy of the woodpecker's square). Therefore, actual sizes differ by about 1-2mm depending on which side you measure. Two sides were original and smooth, the other two were fairly roughly cut. My target measurements for my shelf was a bit smaller so I was able to cut it to exact dimensions with no problem and minimal loss of material (and at least one of the four corners was perfectly square so I started at that corner and cut along it n the less perfect sides). For cutting I used a jigsaw with a metal blade. The cutting worked well except that when the blade heats up the plexiglass starts to melt and is welded behind the blade. So you have to cut slowly, a short distance at a time, and the blade cools down in between. A coarser blade might work better, but I haven't tested it. Sanding the edges was easy. Front and back are protected by a strong (but easily removable) film. Plexiglas is completely transparent. Not cheap for what it is but was great that I could get it in one night and it served my purpose. Can't comment on durability but see no reason why it should break as it doesn't take a lot of stress on my shelf and 3/8" (thickness is listed in spec btw) gives enough strength. For the price they would have been cleaner could measure and cut and could have sanded the edges but I'm not complaining, for me it wasn't critical at all.
