Review on Primula TCP 2908 Coffee Press Plastic by Ron Long

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Look for chips and cracks, easy to use, easy to clean if you use a medium/large grind

It looks and responds like every other coffee press I've ever seen or used. The $15 price tag makes it a solid choice over the more expensive options, especially if you're just curious about trying a French press or want to use a second one. However, this is a super base model and it costs so much. They don't have to be trendy to work well, but some may be put off by the lack of measurements. You can fill it with water about an inch from the top. With the addition of coffee grounds, I'd say it holds around 32 ounces. The directions say you need to add 1 tablespoon of ground coffee (anything but finely ground) for every 4 ounces of coffee you want. So, to ease math in my pre-caffeinated brain. I made 2 tablespoons of 8 ounces (the coffee spoon I use has 2 tablespoons) and calculated that 32 ounces of water would provide about 3 full cups of strong coffee (assuming a 10 ounce cup); so true. Customize to your liking. I like the sturdy plastic frame attached to the glass. According to the instructions, the coffee should steep for at least 4 minutes. So. add coffee grounds, add hot water (I used a kettle), stir with a NON-METAL utensil (I used a plastic spatula), cover, let sit for about 4 minutes and then SLOWLY push the plunger. The used coffee grounds are separated from the brewed coffee and are now ready to drink. Just bad and go. It's not my favorite way of making coffee, but I like it enough. It requires some fiddling with the amount of coffee and hot water to use, as well as how long to steep. I prefer stronger coffee to weaker coffee (I can always dilute a strong cup of coffee), so I make sure to steep for 4-6 minutes. Also, in case I forget, LOLI didn't know how to solve this next part. If I had bought this regular order style (and I did, despite being a wine product - the tax on it is the same as the price of the product so we absolutely have to pay for many items) I would ask for a refund or buy new since glass is chipped. The place where it is chipped is on the nose. I suspect it happened during shipping. I've thought about taking it off my item list, but I can still use it enough to review. Since the packaging says to inspect it for chips and cracks, they will most likely resolve the issue positively. I would hope. Overall I found it easy to use and easy to clean. Because I used medium ground coffee (instead of fine ground), the ground coffee didn't make it through the press into my cup of coffee. When it's time to clean, all of the soil is pressed onto the bottom of the pan and nothing onto the press itself. I simply poured out the coffee grounds, rinsed the jug and rinsed the press. No problem the few times I've used it so far. The spout doesn't break anymore, so hopefully it'll be usable for a while. Solid 4 stars considering all aspects. For each 4-ounce cup, add about 1 heaping tablespoon of coffee to the pot. For best results, use a coarser coffee grind. Pour hot (not quite boiling) water into the saucepan, leaving at least an inch of space at the top. Stir the drink thoroughly (using non-metallic utensils) as the coffee will float to the top. Wait about 4 minutes before pouring. Hold the pot handle with the spout facing away from you, then use only the weight of your hand to gently push the top of the handle to lower the plunger straight into the pot. Slowly lowering the plunger with minimal pressure gives the best results. Pour and serve.
