Review on ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ LG PH550 CineBeam LED Projector: Portable, Bluetooth Sound Out, Screen Share & Built-In Battery by Seth Wood

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good feature set but poor picture quality

I looked at it as an alternative to the old LG PW800. It has Bluetooth and a rechargeable battery, which is really great if you need portability. I was a bit concerned that the PH550 only had 550 lumens compared to the PW800's 800 lumens, but there was almost no difference when comparing them side-by-side. Both perform very well in the dark, well in low light and poorly in daylight. Both models are very small and compact with a beautiful design. Both models have a pleasant fan noise. Now for the differences. PH550 has Bluetooth. Works perfectly and great with my JBL speakers. Without cable.Battery. The brightness drops when you switch to battery, but it still looks good in a dark room. You can easily take it with you with a USB stick and have a portable camping solution or take it with you to your hotel when traveling so that you always have a big TV with you. Really cool though. There is only one downside compared to the PW800. Picture quality. They're both 720p (1280 x 720) but it looks like the chip is different. The PH550 has horizontal and vertical pixel lines, while the PW800 has diamond-shaped pixels. And the PH550 has continuous dark lines between pixels, which are very noticeable when you set the image size to around 100 inches. This was a big disappointment. This is less noticeable in dynamic movie scenes, but when the image becomes more or less static (static movie scenes, streaming apps, youtube menus, etc.) you literally see the grid and the pixels! I took 2 images to tell the difference to demonstrate between the two PW800 (1st photo) and PH550 (2nd photo). In life the difference is very clear. hp If you are using 50-70 inch image size this might be a good solution but not for 100 inch.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance
