We needed extra light from an overhead light and it only had 2 sockets. The fixture wasn't big enough to easily fit into the existing lamp sockets, so I added flexible lamp extensions and moved them out of the way to fit the extra bulbs and add length. And it worked great: twice as much light. It was easy and avoided replacing an expensive ceiling light.
