It took about eight hours to assemble. The guide is wonderful! If you can follow Lego's instructions, you can build this. Almost all of the small bars (used for edging) broke with use, but they all held up perfectly. I personally love the little imperfections in the gears and wood and the fact that this car isn't always perfect. Sometimes the ball randomly bounces along the track. This works 98% of the time so there is no irritation. This is NOT a children's toy. This is a fragile machine with fragile parts. If you want something that can never be messed up and roughed up, buy a plastic or wooden set of children's marble runs (which I also own and still love as an adult).
