I love this carrier! Great design, very nice and sturdy and my little over 10 lb boy has enough space to lay down and turn around. We used it to take him to the vet and it worked great. He doesn't really like staying in a carrier and as he is leash trained I let him out while we waited and the doors made it easy for him to get in and out. Didn't need it last time but the hole in the top is great for getting shy cats out of the carrier. I have a shy cat and will test this on her next vet visit. (As someone who works in the veterinary profession, we LOVE tote bags with top openings! Makes everything MUCH easier). We will be using this carrier for a trip across the country soon and I will report on it after the trip. Update: We recently used this carrier to take our cat girl on several trips, one of which was over 800 miles. The backpack works great, you sit and sleep comfortably in it. However, I noticed another problem, probably the problem with all soft shell carriers, which is that they are not suitable for hyperactive cats. She was fine for a longer trip, but on a recent 200 mile trip she became scared in the car and started struggling and trying to get out of the stroller. The backpack doesn't hold up well, and with all the movement, the seat belt begins to wrap tighter and tighter around the trunk, and in the end it collapses to the side. I had to stop and take stock of the situation. I don't know what happened before that, but when I checked on her, I found that she had also peed in the stretcher. Maybe the collapsed stretcher frightened her, or did she urinate first, and then all the hyperactivity just trying to get away from the wet spot? The car seat also got wet and it took us a day to wash the car and get rid of the smell on hot summer days. The hole you can put your hand through to pet the cat is also big enough for her to jump out of and she jumped out when my husband didn't close it fast enough (for reference, she weighs 9.8 Lb). So if you know your cat is acting up or peeing in her carrier, a soft-sided carrier is not the best option as it can get dirty and the whole situation can get out of hand. When I used it for my cat I never had this problem as he is calmer and socializes better. Next time it will be in a hard plastic carrier. Overall I still think it's a great carrier in its own right. Just not a carrier for every cat.
