I bought it mainly because of the nice microSD card reader that comes with it. High quality USB 3 readers in this form factor are not very common. I like to use them as flash drive replacements (I leave the cards in). I do this for three reasons: microSD cards are much faster than any USB drive I've ever researched, except for a few very large and expensive ones (I only paid $20 for it in January 2017); The microSD card can be removed and inserted into other devices such as phones and media players to share files, making the device more versatile; If the USB device is damaged, I can reuse the microSD card in another device. Features I need in such a reader: - Very small size and only one slot. - USB 3 speed. - Strap loop. - Securely attach the microSD card without risk of it falling out or getting damaged when hanging on a strap or stored in a bag or backpack. This reader meets only the first three criteria. The card partially hangs out of the reader when fully inserted (see my photo) and while it's secure enough in the slot, I feel like it's not secure enough to never come out. (I put a small piece of tape on top of the reader covering the back edge of the card to keep it in place.) There's no activity light either. Besides, I like him very much. It's solid, attractive and very fast and hasn't given me any problems. At one point I thought everything was a mess. I am telling this story to help anyone who is experiencing this with any device. A few days ago I plugged the reader into my computer's USB 2.0 port and the screen went black and the computer stopped responding and couldn't recover. I restarted my computer and since then the reader has not worked properly. Windows 7 recognized that something was connected, but the card partition and data were not recognized. Computer management wouldn't even let me assign a drive letter to the device. Long story short, the only problem was that the standard Windows driver for the device was somehow corrupted. The device worked on all other computers and when I launched Device Manager I found an "unidentified mass storage device". I uninstalled the driver and then reinstalled it and the reader has been working ever since. I've never seen this before. Therefore, try reinstalling the driver (or use a different computer) before deciding that the device is defective.
