Assembly couldn't be simpler as it is already assembled. The first thing that caught my eye upon unpacking was the smell of natural wood. This beautiful piece may not last forever, but made a first impression of quality. It seems to me that it can be safely laid on its side and can hold up to 9 bottles, with the ability to place irregularly shaped or large bottles on it. I put the cider bottle on top of my photo for clarity, although mine is on the end. I see this holder as a great compromise between capacity and workstation usage. A great middle ground between the bulkier 12-bottle cages and the smaller 6-bottle cages. I think my only criticism is that the metal strips could have been a bit thicker so I could be confident in their durability. However, I don't see it ever falling apart in normal use. I am very happy with this purchase.
