Review on SINGER 00557 ProSeries Detail Scissors: Nano Tip, Teal - Shop Now! by Shantel Griffin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Three problems greatly distract from the rest. PERFECTION!

I used to be able to buy "regular" Singer nano-tipped scissors at my local grocery store for about half the price of these. I only see the difference in the plastic handles. When I tested the blades, they turned out to be made of stainless steel of the same gauge. The cutting ends are identical as far as I can tell, making plastic pins very expensive, but with little difference. The biggest issue, aside from cost, is their durability. They appear to be quite strong, but quickly become dull. I highly recommend using them for thread trimming only, then they will last a long time. They come with a lifetime guarantee, my card says: but it also said that you are not sending them back to Singer but to another company. Wouldn't it be great if they told you where they are? They give you the name of the company but nothing else, not even the website. A search yields several companies with similar names, so there is currently no way to take advantage of this lifetime guarantee. I hope the Singers themselves or a helpful Revain member know a return address if one is ever needed? I really hope that future batches of these scissors come with cards that get you the details of the supposed lifetime guarantee right. These three issues are the ONLY reason they lost two stars, otherwise they are INCREDIBLE. This nano tip is the biggest plus of all. You can cut threads between letters in computer embroidery relatively easily. I even use mine to unwrap seams because they are so good. I've tried so many specialty sewing scissors that claim to be "made" for embroidery, but the tips are relatively thick and can't cut tightly. I can't get them under some stitches either, even though they cost several times more than these. I threw away all my embroidery scissors and now only use these Singers - their design is so good! If they made them out of good quality machine tool steel instead (then they wouldn't dull after a year or so of use) they'd be perfect.
