Great fun, great entertainment, great all round

This is the first book I have ever read by Carl Hiaasen and I loved it. It's a very light, entertaining, quick read with memorable characters and, most importantly, a satisfying ending. Usually the plots and feelings in such books are very mundane, and although much of the book is formulaic, Carl Hiaasen's writing emphasizes the narrative. I also liked that most of the characters had multiple dimensions, so my first impressions of the characters were constantly challenged. The plot involves Twilly Spree's attempts to stop the bridge construction and is challenged by lobbyist Palmer Stout. his friend the governor, the charismatic Dick Artemus; Drug dealer turned real estate developer and Barbie doll fanatic Robert Clapley and his friend, the sinister Mr. Gash. The book was very funny and I enjoyed every word. Read the book through in one day. First book in months that I can't write anything negative about.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
