Review on OEM LED Cargo Bed Lighting Set for Tundra and Tacoma (2015 - 2016) 00016-34089 by Richard Eledge

Poor quality, brittle plastic + pathetic customer service

I installed them according to the manufacturer's instructions (which I had to find online; they don't provide hard copy instructions or drilling templates). I tightened the screws to a very reasonable force (I'm an aerospace engineer by day and screwing fasteners for a living). When I got out the next morning, I found the passenger side parking light dangling from a wire. The plastic bracket has completely cracked during the night (see attached photos). Plastic is incredibly brittle and cannot withstand the thermal environment (cold and heat cycles) found outdoors in a truck bed. To download, I contacted Toyota (seller) in Miami to replace the plastic bracket. It's just an injection molded plastic part that should only cost $0.20. After waiting several days for an answer I was told that a replacement mount would cost almost as much as a whole new set. The absolute best Toyota from Miami could do was sell me another set at cost which was $65. It would cost me over $140 for a bed light kit. I do not think so. I sent a reply explaining how unfair this was to customers and asking them to fix the issue. No reply for more than a week. Fortunately, as an engineer, I have access to a 3D printer and CAD, and I will design and print my own replacement. If you don't have that luxury, stay away. Even if you have a printer, AVOID it. I should also mention the shortcomings of this kit in terms of functionality. What's the point of turning on the bed light only when the door open button is pressed? I hooked up the kit to a relay that I control from a dash switch (add $30 for proper dash switch, relay, extra fuse, etc.). Overall, this is a very poorly designed product, from overall functionality to material choices. Not to mention 6 feet of extra wiring that you have to tie up with zip ties behind the rear bumper. Pooh! I definitely wouldn't buy if I could turn back time. There are much better kits out there so do your own research.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
