Review on Gates 41064 Engine Water Pump by Dave Brummet

I replaced the water pump on my Scion XB a few months ago. So far no signs of leaks or overheating. Perfect work so far. Replacing that is a big time, but that's just its nature, nothing to do with the pump. This pump comes with an O-ring. I just didn't trust it enough so I applied a bead of red caulk around the edges to ensure a good seal. The o-ring might work, but getting to the water pump is so difficult that I decided not to risk it. The surface finish of the mounting surface is not as good as the original part. Appears to have a surface roughness of 125 microinches at best, where the original part had a roughness of 63 or better. Bearing looks good, no play. The pad takes care of the rough surface. I am a mechanical engineer with experience in machining and designing mechanical components. I recommend this product. UPDATE: 2/23/21 Still good, no leaks, no overheating, no noise. Perfect work so far.
