The only brand of coasters I find really absorbent is Thirstystone. There seems to be a thick layer of sandstone on the beach. I recently compared my thirst stone to another that promised to devour it in seconds and there is no comparison. Non-thirsty stones leave a wet ring on the surface instead of absorbing them. Thirstystone also covers the cup holder with a protective layer of cork. Not only does it protect against scratches, but it also prevents wet coasters from penetrating my wooden furniture.
