Review on Craft Fun With Klutz Mini Eraser Animals Kit In Brown by Bryan Murphy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My kids' favorite craft kit of all time; mine too

My kids range in age from 5-12 and they love all things crafty. I love things that I can just hand over to them and turn them loose. The problem is that many kits, even with a 12 year old in charge, still require adult intervention. This is not the case with this set.The set comes with 4 different colors of clay but they can be blended to create marble patterns or new colors. The instructions are clear and cute, and the kids easily followed them. My 9 and 12 year olds were able to recreate the items to almost near perfection, and in some cases, identical to the pictures. The 5 years olds . . . not so much. But the booklet had "how-to's" for clay and with those instructions they were able to use their imagination for their own creations. In general they were limited only by what they could think up.The kit includes tiny round black eyes which takes the cuteness to a whole new level, and to tool which was handy but nothing fantastic -- it has a sharp point, a U shape to make mouth/noses/scales/etc, a straight edge and a rounded point. It also comes with a paper background that they can put together to play with, in this case a camper/wilderness piece. The kids loved it to shreds in short time so not a huge plus here. The clay cooks up at a low temperature in 30 minutes. You can't use the microwave. The underside (the part on the tray) seemed soft but appears to be fine. My kids got a huge kick out of the directions saying they had to cool an hour and "yes you must wait the entire hour." Their notes -- Things fall off prior to cooking and it was tricky to get them to stay, (but once cooked they stay fine). Follow the sizes or you will have a really teeny tiny creature. They would like more clay (but that's what keeps the parents coming back for more sets!). They LOVE the yellow glow in the dark clay! The last comment would be that these will erase pencil, but not very easily or very completely and the process leaves black marks on your creation. But let's be honest . . . they want them more as pencil toppers or as tiny decorative items so the goal (at least for my kids) was never to use them to death.I see many many more of these great little kits in my future . . .

Pros
  • The finished erasers are durable, meaning they won't crumble or fall apart after just a few uses
Cons
  • The erasers may not hold their shape over time
