I have three boys and three girls aged 1 to 11 divided into two rooms. I bought three of these and made two large clothes and toy blocks to reduce clutter and get rid of shabby dressers and toy drawers. I bought enough storage cubes to fill every corner, in different sizes. The 13x13 large storage cubes are too narrow for small children to pull out easily due to the design. The black plastic pieces that hold the shelves together at each seam form an edge that forces the cubes to be lifted and removed. The smaller 11x11 cubes don't look as pretty, but are easier to work with. Gathering was exhausting. The reviews here were helpful in emphasizing that one should listen for a click or click. It's definitely important to make sure what you already have is solid and thorough before building anything else on top of it. My friend has one and I have the other. He wasn't very thorough with assembly, and I've had a couple of instances of this plate block coming loose or the black plastic hardware coming loose. I would not recommend this product for children. Kids are too picky about furniture and I have enough to do in one day and I don't worry about assembling furniture. The body materials are solid, but the construction isn't. It is difficult to move without compromising the integrity of the joints. We had fewer problems with the one I put together because I took my time and made sure each node was fully assembled before proceeding. I didn't use the mallet that came in the box, I used my body weight as leverage. The girls love how much space this frees up in their room and I love that their room is practically tidy now. We dumped two dressers and a toy box in her room, which equaled 1 1/2 units. All the children loved being able to personalize their space. I have purchased various storage cube designs - prints, solids and a range of different fabric/felt animal cubes from 3sprout and Hurricane (both available here at Revain). I love how versatile they are in terms of the look and feel of the space they are placed in. If there is an outlet or light switch behind the unit, you can leave this backing on and still have access, or make it shorter on one side than the other. If you want to leave room in the center for a basket, small dresser, table, or trash can, you can build two tall columns that are connected at the top by a pair of bridge cubes. The possibilities are really only limited where your imagination ends. I love that this unit doesn't have any design limitations like a traditional shelving or storage unit - tall or wide. Doors are optional. The transparent material is applied to the metal frame of the door and then punched or sewn with some kind of machine. It turns out a kind of zigzag seam. Some doors have uneven seams which causes the material at the top or bottom to stick out more than it should, causing the top or bottom of the door to snag on the door and you may or may not end up opening two at a time. the ability to completely flush it. If your doors do this, it's either a design flaw or you have a hinge that isn't fully engaged causing it to misalign. If I had rated it when I first got it I would have given it 4/5 stars, but after two months of use it has lost some of its value due to the frustration of having to put the pieces together. All it takes is an unstable joint. If you try to put it back together, you end up causing a chain reaction of other loose connections and it becomes frustrating, especially if the device is too big or too wide for you to apply enough force on either side of the connection to get it right again to put together . Looking back, I regret not saving my money for some sturdier, more traditional items. They just aren't practical for frequent use in a house full of kids. I would recommend this to an adult who never feels the urge to climb furniture to get an optimal superhero vantage point and who would never consider a 14x14 cu as a viable option for a successful hide and seek game. so recommended for adult women :)
