I have a good collection of nuts and spacers left over because they give you almost everything you need, although I needed a few extra washers because our TV used thin nuts. And this baffled me - I couldn't understand the VESA template on the TV because I was supposed to use thick nuts. When I found that attaching the two vertical arms wasn't that easy because the tilt arms got in the way of the holes I needed, I removed the tilt arms, attached the vertical arms, replaced the tilt arms and voila, it's time to see what's behind the wall. Some are stucco over concrete, others are drywall with a small gap behind them, and none of them are wood core. So I drilled holes and used plastic anchors, stopping every few minutes to find a good screw or washer if my screw head wasn't big enough. Finally, it's time to call your spouse to help you move the TV to a new spot on the wall. Works good, looks good and I think I'll use some of that plastic pipe to hide the cables.
