The ceramic-coated thick metal base is elegant and durable. The solid bamboo platter easily converts into an oil serving platter. Since bamboo is exceptionally hard compared to a kitchen knife, it is unlikely to be damaged if butter is cut into it. (Note: bamboo cutting boards will dull sharp kitchen knives. Since butter knives aren't inherently sharp, using bamboo as the cutting surface is ideal in this case of using butter.) I love that this butter dish can hold an entire stick. Butter and a few incomplete sticks, handy if you have a mix of salted and unsalted butter. The box isn't too big for the fridge's short top shelf either, and provides a nice flat surface for storage at the top or bottom. I love that the box just says "Oil" in a beautifully stylized font down the middle. The overall build quality is excellent, with no sharp edges, flaws, gaps, or other noticeable imperfections. Butter dishes have certainly come a long way in the past few decades. I highly recommend.
