We have a larger scratching post in front of a large window at the back of our house, but our cat always wants to look out the front window. too much of. So we opted for a second one that was a) the right height and b) had a large sleeping area upstairs (surprise, there aren't many, they're too small). I don't understand some reviewers' concerns about having to unfold the base and top. They are both very strong when put together.
