Review on ๐Ÿพ Revolutionize Pet Access with the High Tech Pet Power Pet Electronic Pet Door by Anna Crane

Great dog door concept, unique. But suffers from weak manufacturing.

This product is a great idea that suffers from poor workmanship. I live in an area that has a lot of raccoons, possums, coyotes, etc. to be too attractive to muggers and other nasty people. My dog is long and lanky so there is no other option but to install a large dog flap. I've searched and searched and searched for a dog flap that offers something different than your standard valve. It was the only product that came close. I like the idea that a special collar is needed and not just motion controls. I also like that you can adjust the sensitivity. This way I can open the door when my dog is a few feet away or very close. The dog tends to run or lie at the door in the yard. So I can shrink the outdoor sensor so it doesn't open all the time. The block itself is quite long but not too deep. Installation was no more difficult than any other dog door. I just used a jigsaw to slightly enlarge the hole to the right size. I have a version with battery and cable. I'm currently using a battery as I don't like how the cord hangs in the space I have. I need to charge the battery about once a week or more, and it takes an hour or more on average to fully charge. I like the door and hope it lasts a long time. There is no competition that has something like this. Now for the bad. Despite the excellent design of the door, the quality of the product suffers greatly. When I first ordered one of the older handles arrived already torn off. I examined it closely, hoping that it had just come loose or that I might even be able to glue it back on. But the neck (?) where the handle connects to the internal mechanisms was as thin as a toothpick, maybe even thinner. It still worries me that such a flimsy, flimsy piece of plastic is all I have to control the sensor. It should be at least metal. I dread the day when I'll bang my hips on the door as I bring in the groceries and cut them up. Either a child or a clumsy person does not care. I have contacted the company (pain from dealing with third parties, not Revain) and they have agreed to send another out as soon as possible. The next day another member of staff called and left a note saying they would not send a replacement unless I called them right away to give them a credit card in case I didn't return the defective product. The woman was oddly aggressive and reserved, unlike the sweet woman who took my initial complaint. When I got the new door, I installed it right away. After about a week, the tab holding the battery cover broke off. It's also fairly flimsy flimsy plastic. About a week later, I noticed that the door would open when the dog was agitated, but only occasionally when the dog was trying to get back inside. A few days later the outdoor sensor stopped working. Which really sucked as the temp got into the 80's and I had to make sure the dog could get inside. I called the company again and they sent me instructions on how to reset the door. It did not work. They sent me a package with a new sensor. It wasn't very difficult to replace, but certainly a nuisance. The door was only 2 months old. After replacing the sensor and reinstalling the door, everything worked perfectly. In fact, it still works great. The door is quite noisy, so you don't want to install it where it will bother you. Overall it's a great concept and it's the only automatic dog door like them. But their workmanship is so bad that within the first few months some parts broke or had to be replaced.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Almost OK
