For the money, guaranteed, a bargain for select riders

To start with I rode these wheels 100 miles, mounted them myself and switched from Shimano Axis 2.0 aluminum wheels. I have an 11 speed cassette which is a perfect match for these wheels. The weight is as expected, the spokes are bladed, the quality of the wheels is excellent for the price. They give you speed on descents and in strong winds, but are otherwise negligible. Feel a bit sluggish when accelerating and braking is reduced until you put on the brake pads. Great for the price but don't expect it to change your driving experience. As a cyclist on a budget, I am happy with my purchase. ** The wheels arrived completely undamaged, and rightly so. The attached photos are fresh out of the box Contents: Apparently 2 carbon wheels, one in the front, one in the back. The rear hub comes with a new seal for your cassette. 2 quick couplings. 4 rim bolts extra spokes (4 I think) 2 valve extenders 4 brake pads for carbon wheels I really appreciate that the wheels came with all accessories. Installation made much easier. Especially the brake pads and valve extensions. Physical Characteristics: Typically, skinny aluminum weighs about the same as deep carbon simply because there is more material on the rim of a carbon wheel. In my case I was assuming 2.9kg wheels with tires so there was a slight reduction in weight. The wheels feel solid and have a nice shiny look. The braking surface is untreated to ensure better contact with the pads. By the way, the pads are made of some kind of rubber compound, maybe urethane. They have an almost chalky surface structure. The ratchet on the rear wheel is very loud and sounds pretty cheap. The bearings themselves have a low rolling resistance. Let's see if they last long. I was surprised that these wheels have BLADE SPOKES to further reduce drag. Really nice feature! I like their color. I would describe it as an "Alien Green" color. For color matching on my bike, I have Bontrager grip tape, Gatorade G2 Lemon Lime in my water bottle, and green Vittoria Rubino tires. Performance: According to my Strava times these wheels. slightly faster. Nothing special. First, they are more like a flywheel because they are set low. This means it's harder to pick up speed but better at maintaining a steady pace. The performance gain from the aerodynamic shape is most noticeable on descents, long flats and in strong headwinds. Obviously the carbon wheels are stiffer and a bit more responsive. than aluminum. A low rim is more responsive to crosswinds that can potentially blow you away or make turning into the wind difficult. The braking distance is also shorter with carbon, but these wheels are noticeable. more emphasized. I once skidded while stopping with a rear wheel, and overall my confidence in cornering braking is significantly lower than in my aluminum wheels. Because of this, the first 2 rides on these wheels were definitely scary. I feel more comfortable with them, but could also get good cork pads. **Upgrade** Upgraded from 4/5 stars to 5/5 stars. I'm proud to say they still work and I haven't had any issues. It is important to note that braking has improved significantly. I feel safe with these bikes and can make a few sudden stops if needed. Rupture pads must be lapped to remove this chalky surface texture. So be careful on the first few rides, but after that you should be ready to ride. You could probably use some sandpaper to roughen them up if you don't want to wait. These wheels are also pretty sturdy. I've ridden on rough roads and hit debris/potholes a few times (that happens) and there were no visible cracks on the wheels. I would recommend tires with 80mm valve stems. Valve extenders are a nice addition, but not worth the hassle. You can buy them at any local bike shop. Consensus: For the money ($330 at time of purchase) these are fantastic quality carbon wheels. When you add to that a guarantee and proactive customer service, you really can't ask for more. I think it was a great buying experience, they look good and I'm very happy with them. BUT upgrading to them is not for everyone. The performance gain is really minimal and it probably doesn't matter unless you're racing. The brakes don't really engage until they're worn out, so be careful for the first few rides. If you are looking for fairly cheap carbon wheels I think this is a good quality option. But don't expect it to change your driving experience unless you're only driving on flat roads with strong headwinds.

  • Very impressive
