EDIT: Updated review as replacement works fine and is much quieter than the 1st that was out of service. Must have just caught a bad 1st time. One star deducted for the effort. Unit 1 failed after a few cycles. Wouldn't unlock. Now it's like the gears are rattling. replacement ordered. Hope it lasts longer. Maybe got a bad one. I will update the review after receiving a replacement. The lock/unlock mechanism it attaches to appears to be serviceable, so I don't think it caused the crash. It should be noted that you are reusing a piece of plastic from your original movement. This is the part that actually snaps into place to open the trunk. If this part is broken (I didn't have one), buying it will not solve your problem.
