EDIT5: 18 months and finally the problems start. The buttons no longer respond to presses, at which point it's pretty much hit or miss turning it on or off or adjusting the volume etc. Once turned on it works well and the sound is as good as it was on day one. . The battery still easily lasts a week and the ease of drag-and-drop when transferring files. I got myself another MP3 player to try and it sets a pretty high bar to cope with the workings of my Syryn. I would still recommend this item to anyone looking for an MP3 player for swimming without an appointment. EDIT 4: Almost 18 months with practically no problems. It still lasts over 10 hours on a single charge (I never really got to the point of battery drain, I only charge it once a week because it fits my schedule). The buttons definitely get a little finicky and sometimes require a little more force than I'd like. They're still working so I haven't replaced the unit yet, although that will likely happen before the 2 year mark. For the price of almost 2 years of almost daily use of the pool, in my opinion a very good value! I think they could improve the product with more robust controls, but I still recommend them to my lap partners. END EDIT4EDIT3: It's been almost a year and Syren's MP3 player is still stuck. Still only needs a weekly charge and lasts over 10 hours in the pool. I've found turning the device on and off and adjusting the volume gets a bit finicky. Switches don't always register when pressed, but that's not bad enough for me to throw the device away. I always unplug my headphones, rinse and dry the jack, which really helps prevent corrosion. The earbuds are starting to show their age as the rubber piece regularly detaches from the earbud and the rubber piece remains in my ear. Very uncomfortable, but a small dab of superglue on each kidney solved that problem. Being almost a year old and used almost daily I think they work quite well but will probably need to be replaced after a year. As for the buttons not always working, I'm not sure if they can be fixed, but for the price of a new device I'll probably just buy a new one if it stops working. This was one of the best water sports purchases I've ever made and I recommend it if you're looking for a good mp3 player for swimming laps. END EDIT3EDIT2: After 6 months of daily use, Syren's MP3 player is still working. I charge it once a week and it lasts for a week of training (about 10 hours). They may leave behind cheap glasses, but the player is worth every penny to me. END EDIT2.EDIT: The headsets that came with the player are advertised as the best water sports headphones available (swimming headphones). Well after 2 weeks I only had noise in one ear. Check with another headphone and there was no player. In fact, after 3 months of almost daily swimming, the player showed flawless performance. I contacted Revain and was a little disheartened that they wanted to replace the swimming headphones with another brand, the AGPTEK SE11 IPX8 waterproof in-ear headphones, Helix swimming headphones. They dropped some of the cost when I protested, but eventually I gave in. The new buds arrived a few days later and have been perfect ever since! To be honest they sound better than the swimbuds and fit my ears better. Coiled cord is awesome. Swimbuds require you to wrap around the extra cord, but with these AGPTeks, you just stretch them out, tuck them under your goggle strap, and you're good to go. As with the Swimbuds, you'll need to use the FitGoo to get a good watertight seal. I also found that after every swim you should unplug the headphones from the player and clean the connector. At first I just left them plugged in and after a few weeks the sound started to fade. Unplugged it and noticed it looked a bit rusty. Cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a cloth and back in business. The player has never given me any problems with buttons. The only problem now is that I can't imagine swimming without them! And bonus, if you're swimming in a crowd with a bunch of chatty swimmers, you can't hear them, and if they see you swinging, they'll stop bothering you! END EDIT Was a bit hesitant at first after reading the mixed reviews. I was an age group/college/college swimmer and am now a champion with about 45 years of competitive swimming experience. Concerned that without a cap they wouldn't be able to get through a full workout of sprints, multiple punches and somersaults. But all those years of singing the last song you heard before you went to the pool finally blew me away. Nothing fancy about these goggles, just a generic Speedo/Arena/Tyr knockoff, but they're comfortable enough for two hours in the pool and definitely more comfortable than my old Swedes. The first thing to remember is to follow the recommendation to route the cords under the harness, it's important. Second, everything fits. You want the largest headphone adapters with a comfortable fit. Too small and they leak resulting in no sound. Too big and they tend to go outside. Once you have determined what size bud you want to use, make sure you apply the correct slime (or petroleum jelly/petroleum jelly) to them before inserting them. This will help seal them and retain water. I found that they weren't even visibly attached to the back of my glasses (no cap). The operation of the device is simplified, which is exactly what I expect from a pool accessory. Contrary to what most reviews claim, you don't just have to download audio files to your device. You can drag out folders with audio files and they will be played, but in alphabetical order by default. If you set the random play mode, audio files from multiple folders will be played randomly. After a week of training (each 1-1.5 hours) I had to refuel, which corresponds to about 7 hours of playing time. I will be updating this review in a month but for now I would say if you want to get your head around in the pool do it!
