UPDATE 3: It has been 3 years since Vornado replaced my original failed tanks which were causing my blocks to leak. Since then I do not have problems anymore. The rating was upgraded to 4 stars after noting durability and reliability. I would also like to update the original review to point out that I now always use Eco mode. I can't verify if it uses less power, but it's a lot quieter. UPDATE 2: My car no longer leaks after Vornado replaced all 4 tanks on my 2 cars. In order for them to work properly, there must be no air inside, and as soon as an air leak occurs, they drain continuously, causing water to leak out. The plastic these tanks are made of isn't strong enough to support the weight of the filled tanks, so I expect it to happen again. I'm increasing my rating to 3 stars because of the great customer service, but the design is still flawed so it will never get 5 stars in my original rating. Vornado has stated that they will indefinitely replace the tanks even after the warranty has expired, which tells me they are aware of this weakness. But at least they support the product. So if yours is leaking, call in new tanks. Despite all that, I still like him. UPDATE: I bought two of these in January 2018. As you can see below, I originally gave it a glowing 5-star review. Now it's only 2 stars. Why? Because I have the same leakage problem as many others in both blocks. This happens to many people to be an accidental manufacturing defect. This is a design flaw. I can no longer recommend this product until Vornado clears this up. I rarely give 5 stars unless the product is close to perfection. This one does. Having had ultrasonic humidifiers, I can say with confidence that after purchasing this model I will not return. Evaporation is by far the best technology. The ultrasound will spew bacteria into your air if you don't clean it daily. And they leave white dust everywhere unless you use distilled water exclusively, which is expensive and impractical. Any evaporation model excludes all of this. The disadvantage of evaporative models has traditionally been that they are noisy and therefore not suitable for bedrooms. This model works silently at low speed - almost nothing is audible. The high speed is noisy, but you only need to use it when it's disabled and you want to increase humidity as quickly as possible. It can run at low levels most of the time and maintain your preferred humidity level. This model is more expensive but worth every penny given the superior performance, design and build quality over the competition. It includes a humidity controller with a humidity setting range of 40-60%. When it reaches the set value, it turns off and on again when needed. In my opinion, this is a mandatory feature of any humidifier, and many cheap ones don't have it. The electronic display is light sensitive and will darken just like your room, which is very important for us light sensitive sleepers. Two 1 gallon tanks are easy to remove and fill. However, they are not suitable for most sinks. Use a bathtub or sink with a manual sprayer. The tanks have a very subtle backlight that flashes when both are empty. This feature can be beat if it annoys you. Don't worry, you can't see it in the dark. The best is the DC motor for the fan. They're much more energy efficient and longer lasting than typical AC fan motors, as evidenced by the 10-year warranty you get on the motor. Finally, thanks to its good design, it can be easily disassembled for cleaning. The downsides are few, and in fact, these are more quibbles than real flaws. There is an Eco button that is said to increase energy efficiency. As far as I can tell, this is a dubious claim. This basically allows the fan to run at different speeds in addition to high and low as needed. But when my device turned off due to reaching the set humidity level, pressing the Eco button caused the fan to turn on and stay on, albeit at a slower speed than the usual low speed. I don't see how you can make the fan work more efficiently if it weren't otherwise. So I disable this feature. My other issue is the lack of a built-in hygrometer that shows the current humidity level in the room. Finally, the fact that two filter wicks are required means you have a consumable that requires a constant cost of ownership over its lifetime to operate. They cost around $13-14 a pair and the manual says they will last an average of 6-8 weeks. This will add up over the years and they can be hard to find. Two are included to get you started. In conclusion, I can highly recommend this ultrasonic evaporation model. No white dust + no bacteria in the air = yes please. And I recommend this Vornado because it is of high quality. It's relatively expensive, but you get what you pay for. They have a cheaper 1 gallon DC motor model called the EVDC300. They also have some cheaper models with AC motors and different capacity water tanks if you want to save more. Finally, I give a piece of advice: if you use an evaporative block, add some bacteriostat solution to the water. This protects the device and the water from microorganisms and significantly extends the life of the filter wicks beyond the estimated 8 weeks. I consider it mandatory.
