Straight out of the box it looked great and the inner rod popped out easily. The problem is that I have the impression that it has a twist lock to prevent the inner bar from sliding down. Once the inner bar was extended I had to slide the black plastic piece (where the two bars meet) onto the outer bar and it wasn't easy. But even then, it didn't lock well enough to keep the inner bar from slipping. The solution to this problem was to extend the inner pole to the correct length and then use a piece of tape. Wrap two coils around the inner stick where the two sticks meet. Now push the inner bar down and it hides the band behind the black plastic center. This works very well now.
