Review on πŸ”Œ Tripp Lite 2 Outlet Travel Surge Protector Power Strip: Portable & Direct Plug In with Tel/Modem Protection, Plus $50,000 Insurance by Nick Atkinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice shape but the USB output seems overrated.

I like the shape of the product, the fact that it screws onto the mounting plate and that the end caps rotate. overrated. I have an AA battery charger that shows how much current is being charged, up to 2.0 amps. Since this device is rated at 3.4 amps, it should have no problem delivering 2.0 amps into a single outlet. I've used this charger with a few other USB adapters and it's always been fine, but with this unit it doesn't seem to be able to deliver more than 1.5 amps. It is possible that the 3.4A rating is split evenly between the two USB ports and cannot provide 2A per port (many 3.4A USB chargers are rated at 2.1A on one port and 1X on the other rated). To use more than 2 amp USB current these days, you should be aware that you are not getting the fastest charging speed your devices can use. I have to admit this is my pet peeve, there's no reason why USB plugs shouldn't deliver more power, but it's almost impossible to find an outlet, adapter, etc. that will even charge individual USB ports with even 2, supply 0 amps.
