Review on πŸ”Œ MSD 8920 Magnetic Pickup Tachometer Adapter: Enhanced Precision in Sleek Black Design by Patrick Arnautov

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not as reliable as it used to be

They have been working fine for at least a few years now and I have one on my old 1984 Jeep CJ-7 with a factory tach. I've used it in conjunction with an MSD 6AL digital ignition module and recently stopped working to the point where the tachometer is only reading about 1/3 of the actual engine RPM. Only drive the Jeep about 3-4000 miles a year so I was only able to get 20,000 miles off the first MSD Tach Adapter and have just ordered a new one to replace the faulty one. I'm pretty sure the internals are made abroad and aren't as reliable as they used to be. And I know engine heat had nothing to do with the failure as it's mounted high on the fender and gets fresh intake air while driving. I am only giving these devices 3 stars as they have increased significantly in price since my original purchase. 2010 for about $55 directly from MSD. MSD needs to work on reliability the most as a few friends and I have some of their products and I've noticed their product failures are more common these days.
