Product received was used

Not sure if someone plugged it in and changed their mind or if it ran and didn't work, but it definitely got installed. In fact, even the instructions were dirty! A bit disappointed as I have to order and wait for another one to arrive

Pros
  • Decent performance

Fixed my problem with the factory tachometer on 75 Celica

Fixed my problem with very slow rev movement above 5500 rpm on 75 Toyota Celica with MSD 6AL-2 programmable box. The factory speedometer was accurate up to about 5500 rpm and then barely responded/moved past that point. After installation, the tachometer rotates to 7500 rpm and works perfectly.

Perfect for sensors

Bought to work with my 1990 VW Corrado. I wanted to keep the standard tachometer and thanks to that I could! I'm going to do a thorough review of this as I'm very impressed with it. The tachometer signal is a square wave. Still, the touch has never been so clear. The standard VW speedometer driver twitches/twitches a little. I am using a Megasquirt pro-3 on my swap and I connected the speedometer wire from the control box to the input (white wire) and the purple to the standard speedometerโ€ฆ

Not as reliable as it used to be

They have been working fine for at least a few years now and I have one on my old 1984 Jeep CJ-7 with a factory tach. I've used it in conjunction with an MSD 6AL digital ignition module and recently stopped working to the point where the tachometer is only reading about 1/3 of the actual engine RPM. Only drive the Jeep about 3-4000 miles a year so I was only able to get 20,000 miles off the first MSD Tach Adapter and have just ordered a new one to replace the faulty one. I'm pretty sure theโ€ฆ

Works but instructions (MSD in general) are vague at best, especially when combining multiple components. And I'm a master technician with 30 years of experience, so this isn't my first rodeo. Even the tech support wasn't very helpful as one person disagreed with another regarding the installation options. The last person I spoke to said the 8920 handles everything that needs a signal. The direction is reversed as they specify 8910 for import. Last I checked, Land Rover is still owned andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Has problems

Mustang Story Car from 1973 with an 87 engine, MSD 6A ignition, automatic transmission. I bought this 8920 touch adapter many years ago and it has worked for a while. When I finally got the hang of this problem, I simply replaced the 8920 with a new one. Still does not work. The new 8920 was tested using the following steps from the MSD website. It did not work. I don't know if I fried it or if it didn't work when I got it. Revan replaced him with no problem. The second came and I tested itโ€ฆ
