I bought these socks because of their lifetime guarantee, not because I would likely return them if there was a problem after reasonable wear, but because it was a testament to the company's confidence in their product. The solution turned out to be successful, after two wonderful years they are just getting old. By the way, I also recently bought similar socks from SmartWool, they shrunk a little after a single wash in cold water (same wash and dry with my DarnTough and FITS socks), but enough that I couldn't use them. They made me jump through a hoop to get them back and it will take 4-6 weeks (not worth the hassle, just put them in a homeless shelter). My suggestion: Darn Tough, FITS and Fox River socks are great, forget Smart Wool.
