Fall apart easily: camping furniture

My husband put this together for me and a gift for my neighbor. She loves hers. I just had a right knee replacement and needed some getting onto the loft bed. The fire brigade was here 21 times because the step kept collapsing. FD lowered the bed and now I can climb in but I can't get out of bed.
