well built but fairly light and compact

This is an amazingly compact tripod when folded and in a (well tailored) carrying case, but fully extends to 75 inches (>6ft). and center column feel solid, and I was able to easily mount a Canon 60D digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera with a zoom lens. video panning. The pan head includes a quick release plate and two standard camera mounting screws, 1/4" and 3/8" (the latter can be stored in the silver screw on the left side of the pan head); The plate mounts under your camera and then inserts into the panhead. ). The center column can slide out with a copper colored lock nut to secure it, but be careful as accidentally loosening the nut can cause the center column and everything on it to suddenly fall off. Metal legs replacing the tripod's rubber feet are a good option. One leg (the one with the rubber grip) can actually be detached and used as a monopod, and it's a pretty simple process: unscrew the leg, unhook the hook on the underside of the B-pillar, then slide the B-pillar out Screw the leg into the B-pillar (or short axle) (supplied as an accessory). It's a bit clunky with the pan head, but a monopod can be used. All in all, a solid, portable, well-made tripod and a well thought-out accessory set. Highly recommended. (NOTE: I have found that the supplier, Cayer, will respond to any questions or issues with the product if contacted through Revain).
