Review on ๐Ÿถ MidWest Homes for Pets Ovation Double Door Dog Crate, 30-Inch: Secure & Spacious Crate for Dogs by Marshall Lindner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best box I've ever owned

I bought the Kong from Petsmart on Midwest's recommendation. I hated it! It has the same lifting front door BUT it's about 15 pounds (50 pounds) heavier and the doors are very difficult to open, close and work with. I sent it back to Petsmart 2 days later and ordered this box from Revain. At first I was a bit concerned that it wouldn't arrive by July 4th. I was going to order it on June 30th and before I placed the order that evening it said the guaranteed delivery would be 7/3 so I went ahead and ordered it. As soon as the order was placed it turned out that "the expected delivery was about 7/3 but that was not a guarantee. I called customer service and was assured it would arrive on July 3rd. I didn't expect it to be delivered on time but it showed up on time as promised and the boy felt a lot lighter and he was about 15 pounds lighter. I read some of the reviews and was concerned that it wouldn't be strong enough for my flat coat/beginner mix, but it is. I was also concerned that he would be able to get out of it based on some of the reviews I read. Well, he's not wild or crazy and he's not trying to run away, but I don't see how he managed to escape when the zippers on the sides are tightly fastened. I've had it for 2 days now and it's been in and out a few times and everything is great so far. I bought a box with one door because we never found 2 doors needed and depending on where we are going to place it in the camper it was all we needed especially with a door that opens and leaves the water y. If my opinion changes soon, I will update my review. Pros: 1. Lighter than many wire crates but still very durable, even for a 67 lb dog. The front door opens out of the way which is a big plus for small spaces and most of the time we live in an RV so space is limited. This is probably the best upgrade Midwest has ever made to their drawers (apart from a better lock)3. This drawer is easy to open and set up.4. It folds easily and has a clip that holds it together when closed. Much easier than Kong5. It comes with plastic handles that attach easily so it can be carried like a suitcase when closed6. It comes with a removable puppy training divider7. Medium gauge wire is ideal for medium sized dogs8. The door opens very easily and reclines to sit on top of the drawer if you want to leave it open. Cons: So far I haven't found any. I've had several cases in the Midwest over the past 30 years and this is by far the best. I stick with Midwest because they have the best quality (in my opinion). Wire diameter and total weight are smaller than Kong but same as Life Stage. Icrate is the lightest and lightest wire. I called Midwest ahead of the purchase and was given all the specs on the scale (interestingly, they didn't know the weight of the Kong. If they did, or it was listed on the box, I would never have bought it), wire gauge, and specs for the vertical and horizontal wires. Based on what I told them about my dog, they recommended the Kong, so I went to Petsmart and bought it. Based on some of the reviews I've read on Revain I agree with them but having bought both I think the Ovation is sturdy and well built and I really don't see how a dog could come out of it. .. that the people using the cage have verified that the fasteners are properly fastened to the side walls. This is a great cage in my opinion and while not the strongest unless you have a very large heavy dog that is very rough, bounces off walls and is a master of escape. Ovation will do its job perfectly. If you have the dog just described and aren't worried about a 50 pound crate to lift and move, then I suggest you go to Petsmart and buy a Kong. It is ONLY available from them and their stores. Be prepared to shell out $170 for it!
