If you decide to take it, by the way, the cost is not prohibitive at all and is quite reasonable. However, it has a stub and a far wider range of focal lengths than the 17-40, which makes up for its higher price. There is only just about enough room for one raspberry indoors on a crop and then barely in the latitude on the street that is 17, which is 24. Even in this price range, there is just a 70-200mm lens; nevertheless, using that as your primary lens is illogical, therefore the 24-105mm option is your only viable option. The fact that it is dark is not a detriment to me in any way; all I have to do is calculate the exposures that can be taken indoors with it and with 24-70 and determine whether or not the gain is sufficient to justify the increase in cost, weight, and size that 24-70 offers. In a room without a flash, an aperture of f/2.8 is still very dark, and an aperture of f/1.4 may not always be sufficient.
