I've had this Small Rig M50 cage for a few years now so I definitely have feedback on it. Immediately after buying it, I noticed how high-quality it feels in the hand. . The M50 is tiny compared to many of its brethren, and the cage really gave it a much better balance in hand and grip in general. a cage that allows him to run into walls in many places. I'm very careful with my gear and thought it would be a deal breaker. My dad was known for his great love of velcro, so I have experience using the soft side for padding. I removed the camera and used a razor to perfectly line up the inner walls of most of the right side as well as the soft velcro underside. I put the camera back in and it's just MAGIC! As if it had to come from SmallRig. I regularly check the screw and it is always tight. If not, turn around quickly and I'll be fine. The biggest problem is this: MANY Canon M50 users want to use a wider range of EF lenses, so they have to buy an EF-M adapter for that. Adapters are common in photography, but with a mirrorless camera body as small as that of the M50, almost any lens becomes substantial in size. Add the length of the lens to the length of the adapter and they get even longer. Why is this a problem? (** First let me say that the sloppy adapter issue I'm going to explain is a design flaw of this cage, and in fact the issue only occurs with autofocus lenses* and lenses that have any digital capabilities, like my 3 L -Series Initially, my 100mm F2.8 IS L always had image stabilization and autofocus on and off. With the 50mm 1.2L, the autofocus didn't work at all and I haven't had a 24-70 yet, but I assume manual lenses have this problem don't have as there are no digital pins to lose connection even with a sloppy lens adapter (my old Konica manual lenses work fine with a budget adapter) I'll explain how and why the cell is to blame: even the best adapters have a slight twist when holding and using the camera, mount, and lens combination, and it can be bad enough that the Kontak te on your lens become completely inoperable, causing it to flop. getting crazy. or stop working altogether. As I said, autofocus or image stabilization was constantly on and off on my L glass before I could find a halfway solution. I finally solved this problem by buying a Canon adapter instead of a Commlite and some other cheaper versions on the market. In this case, the Canon brand was and is in demand! (I have a filmmaker friend who wedges a tiny piece of paper between his adapter and his body and that seems to work fine for his Vitrox speed amp, but don't believe me!) So how could SmallRig solve this problem? ? Spring. They already have! Just nothing for us M50 owners and only a solution for a few cells. Their email explanation was anything but acceptable for what they pride themselves on and are more than capable of producing. That's why Kondor Blue is ahead of them. Two more 1/4"-20 threaded holes under the lens allow the "Lens Stand" (of which they make several) to screw the adapter and cage firmly in place! This is critical! Not only does SmallRig now make many different mounts, they... they also make a lot of cages with holes that come ready to use because they already know about this stupid lens problem! emailed SmallRig asking if they could adapt this into an M50 version of their rig and the reply, which I received wasn't very good and from the company that advertises they get a lot of their ideas from people/users etc. Put simply they said: Since the M50 doesn't have a meaningful "film" (like video) camera is, it doesn't deserve an adapter. Which?! A lens is still a lens no matter how you use it and this problem already has a solution, so I don't understand it at all. You're just totally lazy. Now fast forward to SmallRig, the ta actually releasing version 2 of its M50 cage, and you know what? The biggest problem is still not solved. This is an industry known issue that is not specific to an individual cage or chamber. Just know who's really to blame when your lenses go haywire. This is probably NOT a bad lens or adapter. It's the nature of this physics. Cheaper adapters are more prone to this problem. Move on to a better one, write SmallRig and let them know. Yet again. Every cage they build should have this, but they only have them for Panasonic, Bmpcc4k and Sony. Finally, I was very excited about the integrated Arca plate. If you look at the front of the cage, bottom right below the logo, you'll see that the beveled edge doesn't go all the way through the corner. In an effort to be smooth or something like that, they rounded it up. Well, that means you can't put it in a damn arca mount! I have several [Pro]Master tripods and none of them fit. Even if I open the pickup plate all the way and try to tilt the cage back and forth from edge to edge, it's still too wide! It MUST be included. All these simple fixes, but they didn't solve a single problem in any version. I'll end this long review on a high note by saying that it has been extremely reliable and durable for the last 2 years. and adaptable. Everything else you could want in a cage. (Oh, don't expect to use a factory pop-up flash, there's no room in that cage. No big deal, front flash is generally terrible anyway. Throw away your flashes, folks!) There's no quality issue with the actual product . , just these 3 design flaws, the worst being the lack of a lens mount adapter and the arca plate which in many cases doesn't work properly. I've made over 20,000 photos and countless movies with different versions of my rig. Monitors, pens, microphones, works. I have a MONSTER Canon M50 and it all started with a SmallRig cage. It's sexy as hell and I still love it. I don't intend to switch, no one else has built a cage with a mount for the lens. Hint, SmallRig tip. If you are an occasional user or looking for your first cage this is a great option as you won't have another! Ha. But seriously, it will do whatever you need it to do for a long time. If you want to explore his quirks, don't fight him. Use Velcro and keep learning photography! Now my camera is just extra soft and dense. Better than the factory, you won't even notice, look at the pictures! Hope this inconsistency helps. health for all!
