Review on 📻 Discontinued Griffin Technology RadioShark AM/FM Desktop Radio with Time-Shift Recording: Find Alternatives & Compare Prices by Doug Virden

RadioShark works great. It's incredibly sensitive to USB cable placement. I experimented and experimented and finally got a long USB extension cable and placed the RadioShark on a bookshelf across from my Mac Mini, running the USB cable across the room. I also had to move it away from the fluorescent light. This light seriously affected reception for some reason. With all of this done, RadioShark was exactly what I wanted. For local Dallas NPR station KERA 90.1, I record This American Life, Car Talk, Fresh Air, Selected Shorts and more. I set up the recording of each episode. The quality is excellent. I've also tried Audible.Com for The Bob Edwards Show, This American Life, Car Talk and some recorded books. I thought the quality was _terrible_. It is recorded at 32 kbps as the highest quality level. Terrible Terrible Terrible. Turns out Audible is selling me an XM radio show that's heavily compressed anyway and, well, terrible quality! RadioShark records at different quality levels and I choose the highest. Sounds the same as on VHF. Sounds great, much better than Audible. Turns out I can't take the UNT at Denton 88.1 FM with RadioShark. Too bad, I really like this university show. Well, that would be the icing on the cake! UPDATE: Disappointed. I've had Radio Shark for a long time and I'm disappointed. I solved the reception problems by using a USB extension cable and placing the antenna on a bookshelf across the room. That worked very well. But the software never ceased to amaze me. Sometimes misses records! Just this Friday, he _missed_ the 1-hour talk show that I've successfully taped every week. This morning he only recorded 34 minutes of an hour-long show, then 30 minutes of another show. Why?!? I don't know and it's not obvious how to fix this! I really want this product but maybe it's not the right one.
