Review on Tenergy TLP3000 1.5A Fast Smart Charger for 14.8V 4-Cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer Battery Pack - UL Approved by Gelin Sepulveda

I bought this charger to have a spare battery for my vacuum robot and overall I am happy with it. The charger charges my batteries quickly and I have verified that it stops charging at around 16.8 volts. This particular model was attractive because it has UL approval, which many universal chargers don't have. The safety list doesn't mean perfect, though, as there are a few quirks and inconveniences to this device: the alligator clips on the charging cable aren't ideal, as they won't fit any regular battery connector, leaving exposed metals that are a risk of short circuits. The Tenergy demo video shows how to apply the band when connected, which is a very good idea. This charger does not appear to have reverse current/spark protection circuitry. Small sparks may be visible when the battery is connected and the charger LED is green (regardless of the battery charge level), even when the power cord is unplugged. In any case, avoid connecting this charger in the vicinity of flammable gases. Finally, the AC input jack on the charger feels squeaky and unsafe. This, combined with the behavior of the LEDs mentioned above, initially led me to believe that the device was defective. I connected a battery that I knew needed charging, but when I turned the device on the LED stayed green (not red to indicate charging). It turned out that the power cord on the side of the charger was partially loose. Overall, this is a decent charger, but it could be improved with a few design and feature changes to address its minor flaws. Four stars.
