Direct replacement for my use. TIP #1: After watching a YouTube video, I found out that there are two different models, so do your research and order the right one. TIP #2: After removing all covers, handles, brass rings, etc., I struggled to get the cartridge out myself. I wish it would just pull right out. Don't use force or you may damage the copper pipes in the wall, requiring the plumber to come out $$$. One of the videos I watched shows someone prying the cartridge out of the case with a flat head screwdriver. I ended up using a screwdriver on top and one on bottom and it worked like a champ. TIP #3: The original/old part had an extra white dial that doesn't seem to be used anymore. I was always taught not to have extra parts, so I puzzled for a while. The water temperature control is now built into the assembly. TIP #4: The default setting for setting the water temperature is quite warm. Probably so the kids don't burn themselves. So if you want a higher temperature, save a step and set it to the hottest before turning it off. It's easy enough to adjust after installation, so it's not a big deal (pull and twist to adjust).
