Poor design for cameras that don't have a fixed focal length

Got it as a Christmas present. I absolutely loved it as I haven't had one before and it was so light. After putting it on my camera (Canon T1i), I immediately noticed that I can no longer hold the camera under the lens to adjust the focal length and that I have very small hands. I tried to align my hand and pelvis, but no matter where I put them, they would get caught on my thumb, knuckles, or palm. The only way to use it and set my focal length would be to manipulate the lens very gracefully (ridiculously) with my fingertips from above, or switch to a telephoto lens long enough to reach in front of the plate. It just didn't fit with my 18-55mm lens and my 40-90mm lens. I like to keep the camera steady by holding it under the lens, and with most short lenses and this thing, that just can't be done. I really wish they had put a little more thought into this when designing because I like the weight of the product. I've read many other reviews saying this mount loosens and needs tightening, the flash is misaligned, etc. I don't know. I couldn't get over the fact that my hand couldn't even hold the camera properly to check the work. Sending the design back very disappointed and very upset I had to tell the giver it was poorly designed as they have a return receipt. This upset the person a lot because they knew how much I wanted it and tried to find a good easy one for me since I have small hands and I'm petite. Damn.

Pros
  • Circles the camera unobtrusively while keeping the flash above the lens
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
