These elf lanterns come in two parts. There are flashlights in a pocket. In the other there are elves. You need to collect the lights by sliding the elves across the lights (fairly easy process). The only problem is that there were more lights than elves. The flashlights are powered by three AAA batteries and are for indoor use only. On the plus side, the fact that they're battery operated means you can use them anywhere in your home without needing access to an outlet. Now they are on my stairs. They can have steady lights or have them flashing. This is a fun, whimsical light set that I like to use as part of my Christmas decorations.
