We received them as a gift to another preschooler after receiving them as gifts and loved them very much. Get as big a set as possible so you can build a lot of things. Our 4 year old daughter plays with it for hours. She loves making boxes and putting "gifts" in them for us or building houses for her toys etc. The magnets fit snugly in place but are easy to detach if you want. None of the pieces fell apart in our set, so they seem pretty sturdy too.
