Review on WELLER SM1 SOLDERING MATE SOLDER by Mark Taylor

Revainrating 2 out of 5

DOES NOT SUPPLY AMOUNT OF SOLDER

I'm a little disappointed, both with the product and with me. I should have read the Q&A, but as always in a home with three kids, a cat, and a woman recovering from surgery, I got distracted while ordering. I have to send it back, but it's *MY* fault for not reading it all. and to be honest, $10 a pound of solder is never going to exist, especially the brand we've heard about here in the States that we actually pronounce and not just a bunch of random consonants. $10 for *just* this piece of metal? The only reason it's so expensive is because of the "Made in the USA" ("but somehow packaged in Mexico") sticker. If it was hand stamped it might cost enough to justify the $10. It's just a piece of 18 gauge sheet steel, cut, stamped and bent with a hollow aluminum pin. Once the solder is more than halfway gone I seriously doubt it will have enough downforce to keep it from dragging across my desk with or without rubber feet. Must be really heavier for what it's supposed to do. And seriously, why would something so simple, a stamped piece of metal, be made in the States and then sent across the border to be packed and shipped? Doesn't it have to be boxed, sent to Mexico to be sent back here? Am I missing something here? This thing REALLY isn't worth $10 in metal or craftsmanship. Of course I bought it because I thought it would come with solder. 10? I knew better. my fault But now I don't have any solder to test it. So here I go to hunt down another one on the ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooous$$15 toss toll toss toe toe tomen toy on the oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooing shopping list, just to save $15 by making my own electronic device that i could buy on eBay for$40. Chase my solder roll more. >*shrugs*<
