It's worth it! - Filter Accessory

So yeah, the first thing that strikes most people is that it's "expensive". However, it is well built and perfect for Fluval Spec tanks. I have experimented with putting filter material in this basket. I've found that a mechanical filter on top (Porous Filter), a larger biocarrier (Matrix) in the middle, and a fine/polishing medium (Purigen) keep my tank clean. (Recently I diced my mechanical layer by slicing the block into smaller pieces and placing them so they stacked randomly.) No carbon, I have a heavily planted Spec V and don't need it in my setup. One misconception is that it's all my fault, I thought this basket had an aluminum/stainless steel frame. It's all acrylic. I misinterpreted the photos. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but thought I'd just add that. Since there is no 'frame' this probably makes this rack more durable and easier to clean. The main advantage of this material basket is that it keeps everything together when you remove/place filter media. A big improvement over the standard "grip" foam block. All in all, this fairly expensive media tank is a great investment for your Fluval Spec (fits all 3 models). Invest in an under the hood upgrade. This makes your aquarium shine and makes maintenance easier.
